Victor Precheur, a student from IMT Atlantique, France, shares his experience during the student exchange programme at Master of Engineering Physics Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) for one semester. According to Victor, one of the main advantages of the student exchange programme at UGM is that some of the courses are very interesting and offer flexibility in terms of time and assignments. This flexibility gives students the freedom to organise their study schedules, which is very helpful for international students who also want to explore the culture and surroundings.

Victor stated that he adapted well to the people in Yogyakarta. The friendly people and beautiful environment made his stay in Yogyakarta very enjoyable. However, he also admits that there are obstacles, especially when it comes to walking on roads that are not always pedestrian-friendly. One of Victor’s most exciting experiences was riding a motorbike or scooter in Yogyakarta. He found that people in Yogyakarta are not in a hurry and pay more attention to driving safety. This is different from France, where people tend to be in a hurry and sometimes not careful when driving.

During his time at Master of Engineering Physics UGM, Victor underwent four courses, namely TKNF226201 – Experimental Engineering Methods (3 credits) taught by Dr. Siddiq & Dr. Widya Rosita, TKNF226202 – Computational Engineering Methods (3 credits) taught by Dr. Alexander Agung & Ayodya, Ph.D., TKNF220011 – Wind and Water Energy Systems Engineering (3 credits) taught by Dr Rachmawan, Ari Bimo, Ph.D., & Ayodya, Ph.D., and TKNF220005 – Nuclear Reactor Systems Engineering (3 credits) taught by Dr Andang & Dr Alexander Agung.

Victor highly recommends the student exchange programme at Master of Engineering Physics UGM to his younger siblings and he has invited some of his younger siblings. He mentioned that Yogyakarta is a great city with many international students, and its strategic position in the centre of Java makes it easy to make cultural visits to historical places such as Borobudur and Prambanan. After completing the student exchange programme, Victor plans to take a sabbatical year to pursue internships in theoretical physics and management science. He hopes that his experience during the student exchange programme at Master of Engineering Physics UGM will provide great benefits for his future career development.

Interview with Victor by DTNTF lecturer Dr Siddiq

Victor Precheur has gained many valuable experiences during his time at UGM and Yogyakarta, and he hopes that more students will be interested in following in his footsteps in the student exchange programme at Master of Engineering Physics UGM.
