The availability of a skilled workforce is one of the main requirements for realizing a national nuclear program. A Master Cooperation established on December 5, 1974, between Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and the National Atomic Energy Agency (BATAN) – which has now changed its name to the Nuclear Energy Agency National (BATAN) –. Nuclear engineering education at UGM is one manifestation of this collaboration. In its development, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics UGM held two undergraduate study programs, namely the Nuclear Engineering Study Program and the Engineering Physics Study Program.
In 2016, the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics UGM started the implementation of the mandate from the Decree of the Chancellor of the University of Gadjah Mada No. 1378/P/SK/HT/2015 dated September 21, 2015, to organize the Master Program in Engineering Physics. The operational permit for the study program implementation is regulated in the Decree of the Chancellor of the Gadjah Mada University No. 515/UN1.P.1/SK/HUKOR/2016 dated February 15, 2016. Since then, the Master Program in Engineering Physics has been led by Dr. Ing. Singgih Hawibowo until October 2021. Since November 2021, the Master Program in Engineering Physics manager has been led by Dr. Gea Oswah Fatah Parikesit, ST, M.Sc.
