Nuclear security competencies are required for graduates who will work in nuclear regulatory agencies, nuclear facility operators, and agencies related to nuclear security. Based on the regulatory approach, nuclear and radioactive materials can be categorized into materials listed in the permit and not listed in the license (out of regulatory control). The core competencies of nuclear security include several directed elective courses, namely (D1) Nuclear Security System Design, (D2) Nuclear Material Accountancy and Control or NMAC, (D3) Nuclear Security Instrumentation, and (D4) Nuclear Security Management. Additional competencies can be provided in the form of free-choice courses: (F1) Human Element in Nuclear Security, (F2) Nuclear Forensics, and (F3) Nuclear Security Legal Framework.
